Luton and south Central Bedfordshire

The Luton and South Bedfordshire area includes the Luton unitary area and the southern part of Central Bedfordshire. Some 27,300 homes and 23,000 new jobs are planned for this area up to 2021. The identified growth area encompasses the towns of Luton, Dunstable, Houghton Regis and Leighton Buzzard.

Less than 30 minutes from the centre of London with excellent road, rail and air links. Connectivity is set to improve further with the planned guided busway between Dunstable and Luton, linking transport hubs with major housing and employment sites.

As a business area, it has growing appeal with Capability Green Business Park and Butterfield development attracting major companies, and further employment planned at developer-led major sites of Napier Park. Luton Town Centre is receiving a facelift with retail expansion of the main shopping centre, urban environment improvements and a new station gateway into the town, and there are further regeneration plans for Dunstable and Houghton Regis

The area as a whole has a number of assets, including the University of Bedfordshire campus and an attractive leisure offering, including being set within the Chilterns area of outstanding natural beauty.
