West Northamptonshire

West Northamptonshire covers the Northamptonshire districts of Northampton Borough, Daventry District and South Northamptonshire. Some 48,900 homes and 37,200 jobs have been planned for this area up to 2021. These will principally be around the urban areas of Northampton, Daventry and Towcester.

With a population growing to some 300,000 people, a lively town centre, it's own University, excellent sporting offer, wonderful surrounding countryside, excellent links to London and the Midlands, and a deep sense of history, Northampton is fast becoming a ‘market city’.

Northampton's sibling towns of Daventry and Towcester are expanding also into thriving towns. Together, the area of West Northants will build from its strong history and urban character and develop new homes, new jobs, better connectivity and improved economic opportunities.

Local Delivery Vehicle

West Northamptonshire Development Corporation (WNDC)

Established in 2004, WNDC is one of only three Urban Development Corporations in the UK. It has planning powers (development control) for parts of Northamptonshire. WNDC’s planning functions are focused around the urban regeneration areas at Northampton, Daventry and Towcester.

WNDC is working in partnership with Local Planning Authorities to deliver a planning framework for delivery through the West Northants Joint Planning Unit.

WNDC has a team of some 50 people and is managed by a Government appointed Board of both public and private members. Its key priorities are:

  • Deliver new homes and the infrastructure to support new homes
  • Ensure new homes are supported by jobs, infrastructure and town centre regeneration
  • Ensure new homes meet design and environmental quality standards and are integrated with existing communities
