Planning

Housing and Planning image

With more homes planned than any other Growth Area or Growth Point, mksm is the UK’s largest growth area.

This scale of growth presents planning challenges, particularly as the mksm area spans a large area incorporating three regions, sixteen local authorities and a range of other interested parties and delivery agents.

As the planning context changes, so do growth targets and aspirations. You can see the latest Housing and Jobs figures here.

mksm Sub Regional Strategy (2005)

In 2005, the three mksm regions and administrations jointly produced the mksm Sub-Regional Strategy. This unique statutory planning framework sets the policy and the scale for growth across the mksm area. The Strategy was formally agreed in 2005, and as an integrated statutory planning framework it remains the only one of its kind in the country.

The mksm Sub Regional Strategy was based on a range of Growth Area Assessments (www.southeast-ra.gov.uk) which define the different Growth Policy Areas for mksm and underpin the final Sub Regional Strategy.
